crosley fridge not cooling

I have a crosley fridge that I believe is made by Frigidaire because it looks a lot like my Frigidaire.  It is not cooling.  The compresser makes a noise, but the piping to the coil does not get hot.

Is the noise a Buzzing then a click.. or is the normal running noise?

Compressor is not starting, relay overload. (If you are lucky.)

The noise is not a buzz or click, it just seems like the compressor running.  Of course there are fans and such running so I may be confused, but if I put my hand on it I can feel vibration.

Can a guy check the overload with a volt meter.  Is it just like a fuse?  I already replaced the relay with no change in behavior.

If the compressor is running and not hot and the tubes hooked to it are at room temp it sounds like the compressor is shot.....  Bent or broken reed valves...

The compressor looks like a big job to replace.  Is that something a homeowner can do, or does it require soldering and recharghing?  Is there a way to know for sure rather than swap it out?

Does require recovery, brazing and recharging. Not something I would recommend a homeowner doing in most cases. I would confirm with a Tech, it is not a cheap job and for a top mount fridge you may want to consider a new one.....   They can be had for a fairly reasonable amount.  Retail is just under 260 for the compressor kit...

You might just need to add a little freon if that is an R134a type compressor. Adding  no more than 1/4th can can make that puppy start cooling again.
