So here is what I found. With the brake still out I was able to get the machine to spin by wedging extra washers in the thrust bearing area. I also noticed that the bearing did not seat all the way into the retainer for the brake spring. I ordered both the thrust bearing kit and the Retainer from this site. I am happy that the thrust bearing kit is only half the cost of the competitors. I feel confident this will fix the machine. Thanks for your help. I am so glad I found this site.

So I bought the bearing thrust kit and can not install it. As in my original post the drive shaft does not go low enough for me to install a thrust washer. I can barely fit the cir clip on and it is so tight it will not dis engage the brake and allow the washer to turn counter clockwise. What do I do next? Either I need the drive shaft to drop another 1/8 inch or I need to concentrate on another part of the washing machine
