LG WM2277 de error

Well now I am getting the de error message at time when we start the washer. Wife informed me that this has been happeneing of and on. I can hear the mechanism make a noise a couple of times before I get the error. Sometimes you can open and close it several times and get it sometimes you don't. Manual says what to do if you do not hear the locking noise but not what to do if you do. Am I correct to assume I need to replace the lock or is there an adjustment?
