Calypso pump repair - I got photos
« on: May 06, 2011, 08:45:04 PM »
Been working on a Calypso washer today. The water was not being dispersed by the pump. I removed the tub and took the pump apart. I found a lump of lint in it. I put her back together and she runs beautimous now. I took photos:

I hooked it up in the garage. Gonna let um use GAIN sparingly to see if that puppy works ok. Gonna give the washer to my wife's mother who has been manually advancing the timer on a tired out GE washer for years.

To access the innards of this washer yall remove the Whirlpool emblem and take out the screw. Slide the top towards you a hair and raise it. Then you can remove the front which features 2 screws up top and the same fasteners that hold a dryer front on the base. These are easy to break. You must raise up the front panel a bit before yanking it forward and removing it. The tub rests on 4 suspension rods just like a GE washer. It has 2 shocks below.
I use one of the front rods to help me get the rear rods up and in place and then I got the wife to help me attach the front two. I lifted the basket whilst she connected the plastic retainers. Awkward but it worked what can i say..

To recap: It took a little time to remove the tub and such but it was not that difficult of a job. I am beginning to gain a lot of respect for these machines. They use half the water of a regular machine and 1/4th the amount of soap. It is a entirely different concept in clothes washing.

The pump plays a vital job in recirculating the water. It is the key player in this setup. So washing a flaky rubber bath mat or a shaggy rug can only serve to kill this washer.

That's a lot of work for a pump.  I lean the washer back, drop the bottom panel and access it from the bottom.  But then I only have 20 or 30 minutes before I have to leave for my next call.

Thats a good tip. I didn't think the bottom was removable and didn't even try it. On the newer suspended washers are most of them made where the base can be removed to access the pumps?
