Hello
I have a great, from new, 20 year old SE1000. (During that time I have replaced the dryer drum rollers and bearings, and the gas relay and that's it.)  it still works great.  Where I live the building switched to one gas meter for the building and the building pays for gas and we pay for electricity, so we want to switch to a gas W/D.  When we remodeled the kitchen I built a closet to house a gas version of the same W/D, but gas. SG1000, which has (had) the same dimensions as the SE1000.

Now I can't find this model available. The depth of the closet is just under 32". which was enough when I could use  my SE1000 - it's 27" deep.  When I search for Maytag stackable now, all I can find is MGT3800TW, which is 32" deep - won't work.  Has the SG1000 been replaced/discontinued? What's the wisdom here on a replacement full sized stacked W/D that will meet the 32" TOTAL depth (unit + minimum space front and rear)? The Maytag has been good to us. thanks
Daniel

Sadly that machine is no longer made. It was a great design and used the tried and true Maytag dependable drive washer.

Well that's depressing.  Two days, and 70 views, and no recommendations for a comparably sized replacement.

So, if this unit had such a good reputation, and I went looking for a used one, a gas version an SG1000, what would I be looking to fail?

Does the burner or flame chamber rust out? Do relays specific to the gas dryer give out? What's prone to fail and are those parts still available and should I get backups now, if I find one?

Could I just look for the (gas) dryer unit? - with the electric dryer version (SE1000) we have now, the dryer is on it's own stand, separate from the washer. If I could find just the gas dryer, could I just swap it out with the electric dryer?

thanks much
Daniel

I have only seen 2 in 30+ years I have been doing this, used for sale. Everyone keeps them forever. Keep the one you have. The amount of electicity you pay will never amount to changing out new machines every 5-7 years. Run it til it quits!

I think that machine measures too deep. Not as good as the old Maytag but good second choice.

website says 30 13/16"
installation manual shows 30 13/16"
although I'm not sure about the Venting options.
Where is your Vent connected now ?

i know it's been four months since you posted ur messages about wanting to replace your se1000 with a sg1000,  but i have the model sg1000 that you were looking for and i am wanting to replace it with a se1000.  Maybe we could work out a dryer only swap if you're still interested.
