Compressor Relay Blues
« on: April 01, 2011, 01:22:21 PM »
My friend Larry brought a GE BSY25GFMDWW side by side over here. He has connected a 3N1 Hardstart to the compressor. Did he screw that compressor up? There is a motherboard on the backside of this puppy. I am wondering if this is one of them variable speed compressors.

Their are 3 wires that connect to the relay. Orange, White and Black. All I can get is 12.5 volts out of any 2 of the 3 wires so that explains why the hard start does not work. The compressor is a 115v single phaze model, so does that mean the board is shot?

yes, chances are ...
If the Board is bad, it won't send any (enough) voltage to the Compressor.
Standard Compressor, "Encoder (Cold) Controls"
similar to GE 31-9071

Thanks Reg. Larry is on hi way over here. He has another board out of an older box. I will check the numbers on each board before installing.

GE's newer universal board WR55X10552 replaces some older part numbers,
but there's installation instructions (modifications may be needed):

Today Larry brought over a board off of another ice box not the exact same board but it had all of the connections plus an extra one. The compressor would not fire off on this one either. Nothing going to the compressor relay in the way of power. I got to lookin at the old board and it looks to me like it needs a tad of solder on one of the connections to a relay.  Dang old cheap camera batterys have run down. Gonna try and clean up the board a little and re-solder that connection tomorrow.
