Admiral Washer Repair and Manual
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:29:27 PM »
I have an Admiral AW20K3W Washing Machine.  The spin cycle is not spinning all of the water out and I've found plastic shavings in the bottom of the washer.  I can't find the Admiral repair manual, but was told that this unit was made by Maytag and is the same as a Maytag model inside.  Any help would be greatly appreciated with diagnosing the problem and locating a repair manual.

Remove the belt. Take out the 6 springs. Drop the whole she bang out of the washer and flip it over. Make a reference mark of where everythang is before you disassemble  More pix:

So, what are the plastic shavings?

Does it require any special tools to replace whatever it is?

I would have assumed that my slow spin was related to needing a new belt as it's over 20 years old and has never been replaced.  But, the plastic shavings had me concerned and I really didn't see any place that looked glazed or stretched on the belt.  So I wanted to see what the plastic shavings were before I decided if I was going to try and fix this one or buy a new one.  This washer has been pretty dependable as I've only had to replace a timer and lid switch on it and I can live with that in 20+ years.

Thanks for the help.  After looking the washer over I decided it was time to get a new one.  The tub had some paint bubbling and looked to be about ready to rust through in a spot or two and with the plastic shavings and what other worn parts might be ready to go I decided to just start fresh.

Already bought a new one.  I got the GE Profile 3.6 cu. ft. Capacity Top Load Washer PTWN6050MWT.  It's a little bigger than the model you suggested and more energy efficient.  The selling point for me was the warranty though.  This model comes with One year parts and labor on the entire unit, plus:

5-year suspension rod/spring assembly/main electronic control board/washer lid/cover
10-year outer tub/transmission
Lifetime on product basket

Retail at the GE site is $649.  HHGregg had it $550 last time I looked and Home Depot just put it on sale for $494.  I bought it at Appliances Connections on line for $384 (after a $50) rebate, plus free shipping.  Thanks again for all the help though.

LOL!  The old one will be sitting in front of the house for garbage pick up next week.  Anyone that wants it, feel free to just stop by and haul it away.  O0
