Admiral Washer Repair and Manual
« on: March 27, 2011, 12:29:27 PM »
I have an Admiral AW20K3W Washing Machine.  The spin cycle is not spinning all of the water out and I've found plastic shavings in the bottom of the washer.  I can't find the Admiral repair manual, but was told that this unit was made by Maytag and is the same as a Maytag model inside.  Any help would be greatly appreciated with diagnosing the problem and locating a repair manual.

Remove the belt. Take out the 6 springs. Drop the whole she bang out of the washer and flip it over. Make a reference mark of where everythang is before you disassemble  More pix:

So, what are the plastic shavings?

Does it require any special tools to replace whatever it is?

I would have assumed that my slow spin was related to needing a new belt as it's over 20 years old and has never been replaced.  But, the plastic shavings had me concerned and I really didn't see any place that looked glazed or stretched on the belt.  So I wanted to see what the plastic shavings were before I decided if I was going to try and fix this one or buy a new one.  This washer has been pretty dependable as I've only had to replace a timer and lid switch on it and I can live with that in 20+ years.

Thanks for the help.  After looking the washer over I decided it was time to get a new one.  The tub had some paint bubbling and looked to be about ready to rust through in a spot or two and with the plastic shavings and what other worn parts might be ready to go I decided to just start fresh.
