Electric burning smell...

I have a Kenmore 110.26732502 Series 70 washing machine, purchased in 2006. Just recently it started to have an "electrical" smell (I'd say like burning wires) and I noticed after it fills with water, it takes a long time before it starts the cycle. This "smell" has gotten stronger and stronger, and tonight I think it took 20 minutes for the washer to start the load after it filled with water. So far it has not stopped working, but tonight I was almost sure it had officially quit.

What should I start checking???

I would check the motor Start Capacitor.

You ain't gotta pay that crazy price. Go to an HVAC outlet or Johnstone or Grainger and get a cap specified for that rating. $30 bucks is crazy. $5 is all I used to sell them for.

Took 22 secs to find one on ebay for $4

Just wanted to say thanks for the help, you were dead on! I replaced the capacitor last night and the washing machine worked great, no "delay" in the washing cycle starting up, and no "burning electrical" smell.
