CR actually had Roper rated very well compared to these three big names!  But CR had the Cabrio washer as a top pick.

Could you post the model number of the Roper that CR rated?

if its not to late DONT buy a cabrio, i loved mine at first. but we have had them less than two years. on valentines day this year had to replace one of the motors in the washer and now i am fighting a no heat problem in my dryer. i have spent just under 250 (counting shipping) on both these appliances in the last 5 weeks. i wish id known how expensive parts are before i had bought them cause i paid a small fortune for them to begin with. just really wishing i had my old normal sized washer and dryer back! save yourself if u can!

@krazytech, i reckon u were talking to me, about mine being different, and that may be very well so but after all the trouble i have had and the price of themachines to start with then the price of the parts to fix it, none of these high tech things are worth it to me, but that is just my opinion and maybe i just really did run across a crappy set...who knows....well anyways if they are both whirlpool and both cabrio then i think they arent to different kinda of like a car every year the companies update a few things but its basically the same car just new exterior but u techs do know more about the running aspects of these machines i just wish i would have found some kind of forum like this before i bought mine and so i could have made a better informed decision before buying. but again jmo

Kinda makes ya wonder why WP would have a tried and true model like the direct drive and also offer a crapper washer like the Cab and Bravos models.

The direct drive washer doesn't meet the new EPA regulations. This should be the last year the dd washer will be available.

Correction: it's the Department of Energy not the EPA that's imposing the regulations. According to this article you might be able to buy the dd washer through 2012.

This is BS. Consumer reports does not post a good model number for their best machine called an Elite LOL which sadly looks like a dayum Bravos Cabrio. Are the folk at CR brain dead?  I dare CR to show me a model that I would approve of for resale.

the WTW5600XW is a totally different machine than the older "Cabrio" It is like comparing a 2011 ford Taurus with a 1997 ford Taurus  both are fords and both are Taurus but are totally different cars...

DD machines will NOT meet the star energy ratings or DOE 2013. Our DM said that whirlpool has warehouses full of DD machine. the Factory send a lot of time making DD machines last year..

$250 to $300 and a Gearcase run $200... why would you replace a tranny?
