older GE profile washer

Have  this older GE Profile washer that has a water leak from somewhere at the top af the washer as soon as it starts to fill.I have taken the cardboard cover off and can see the water coming out from the fill area as soon as it starts to input water into it.What procedure is used to acess the fill valves and the water inlet hoses.I tried to lift  up the top,by pressing in the clips on the front of this thing,but it won't raise up.Is there somthing else holding the top down?Also is there by chance a service manual that is for this type profile washer?

More from the swamp. The first pic here clearly shows the small rubber hose that connects to the downspout on the outter tub:
