Microwave Oven Repair
« on: January 06, 2016, 06:29:18 PM »
Is it ok to ask if anyone on the forum has knowledge about a Sharp carousel II microwave/convection oven? My turntable base has a wallowed out wheel and I am wondering if I can safely use a standard metal bolt and nut to reattach it in place of the flared nub that originally held it in place.

Thanks

I'm having a hard time understanding what you want to accomplish. Could you post some photos or a model number?
And normally metal in a microwave is a no no but I'm not sure what you want to do

if your talking about one of the wheels underneath the glass tray in the microwave then no, you cannot use metal to hold it in place...

My turntable is metal and not glass. I am attaching photos which show that the wheels are attached by a metal pin with a groove that was pressed into the end of the three sided base. Since they are metal I was thinking I could use a all thread type bolt and nuts to reattach them.

General rule of thumb, no. If the metal stays away from ground, or the oven cavity in this case it may work BUT is not advised.

What is the model number that is printed on the model/serial number tag that is located on the inside of the microwave?

Sharp Carousel II

Model R 9A 50

Manufactured  1988

I have no doubt this unit is beyond its expected life span and makes a deep "humming/growling" noise when using the microwave function. The convection function is what makes it so handy and i will be sad when it stops working as there is probably little hope of getting replacement parts. Still, I would like to continue using it until it stops.

Thanks

I say go for it. You're just replacing metal that's already there. The worst thing that could happen is some arcing.
