Whirlpool Washer fills but will not wash

Hi
my washer will fill but does not begin washing, it makes a humming noise, the other day i was mad at it and kicked it and then it started, last night, we were pulling it out we checked it and it started, what could be wrong or loose,seems we may have something that is not connecting properly, please help.

it may be a bad motor start switch or a bad connector, try tapping on the start switch with a broom handle.

Thanks for the info, can you let me know where this is located? and then i will try it this evening and see if it works, really don't have the money to go out and buy the new part
