Washer will not stay on

My Neptune washer will not stay on - push start button, water runs for a second, "On" light flashes, then water stops, light goes out.  Washer is 10 plus years old and I have NOT replaced anything on it.  Thoughts?

As a follow up, the washer was full of water, so it would not allow anymore water in.  Now, when I turn it on, the water is not turning off.  I turned the water off at the source and I am seeing if it will run through a complete cycle.

I would remove the front control panel and look closely at the control board for burnt parts.

Unplug the washer and remove the three screws on top the console. Then grab the console by it's sides and slide it forward.

You will then get a clear view of the control board that is mounted to the metal plate behind the console.

I checked the control board and I did not see any burnt resistors (R11).  Now the washer comes on, but the water does not turn off!  This thing is 10 years old - first time it has given me any trouble.

Did it run through a complete cycle?

The water valve gets power directly from that control board you looked at.
If the washer tries to fill even with the washer unplugged then the water valve is physically stuck open and will need to be replaced.

If you can unplug the washer and the water stops running then you will need to use a volt meter to see why there is power to the water valve when there should not be.
