cycle stops at spin

Top of machine is bare.
Only sticker I can find is on the edge of the dryer door.
Model # and Serial # . Made in USA. Looks like some time in June, 1995.
Only other sticker is Energy Label on lower front panel of washer.

Happy Days!
I took the lid lock out of the loop and jumped the wires.
The full cycle went through including spins.
Put the lid lock back in and no joy again. However, when I manually pressed down on the lid switch through the cycle all was well.

So after all that, my problem seemed to be:
1. Loose belt caused by tension not being set strong enough.
2. The lid switch not being depressed far enough to close the circuit 
    completely.
