This seems to be a common problem with a lot of different issues/solutions, but I haven't seen my particular scenario addressed so I'm hoping you guys can help. I have a Kenmore 90 Series dryer, about 6 years old (not sure, it came with the house which was built in early 2005). I don't have the model number handy but can add it to this post when I get home if it will help; it's a pretty basic model I'd assume.
A few weeks ago, it began stopping mid-cycle, but could be restarted; now it won't start at all, though it appears to be *trying* to start. Previously, restarting sometimes required me to hold the start button in for a second or two, depending on the amount of "rest" time. Also - again, seemingly dependent on rest time - the dryer would stop again even after restarting. Now when I press (and even hold for many seconds) the start button, it makes a buzzing sound as usual, but the dryer doesn't actually start. The drum does seem harder to turn as well, which I've seen in other posts could be an indicator. The heat seems to work fine (I remember the last finished load coming out warm).
I know this could be a few different things - drum assembly/belt, circuit board, overheating motor, broken motor, etc. - but any hunches about the problem or suggestions on where to start would be much appreciated.
Thanks in advance,
