Checking a Kenmore upright freezer electronic control
« on: December 24, 2010, 11:23:30 AM »
Do any of you guys know how to check one of these electronic thingys? Does this thing do the defrost and control the temp? The only other thing in the box is a thermister up top and a couple of lights, a buzzer, a switch between the lights, and the relay on the compressor. The buzzer goes off when I flip the switch between the lights. I checked the heater and it is fine. When I push these buttons on the control I get nothing. Have any of yall messed with one of these yet?

Here is the control in question

Thanking yall in advance

Yes it gets the temps from the thermistor and then it does its operation .If you have power to it and nothing from there replace it.

Thanks Nio, I been working on this puppy this afternoon. I jumped yellow and black and she runs perfect. I went to the Frigidaire website and found the freezer manual with simple electronic controls. The control has 4 wires and a thermistor inside it that does the freezer temps. Black is hot and yellow is common back to the compressor and inside fan. The white was not needed it feeds power to work the control and is not needed for this test. Another thermistor mounted off to the right is on the circuit with the idiot lights and powers them up when the box goes above freezing.

That temp sensor probably ain't nothing but a Klixon in a box that closes contacts when freezer temps exceed freezing and turn them lights and buzzer on. The yellow lamp shows the box has power with the red light and buzzer connecting to that sensor box.

I already had it running without the control in it Jumpy. When you got it running with everything working EXCEPT the control that is a pretty good indicator of what the problemo is amigo.   I like to know the machine don't have no other problems before getting a control but that's just me. Common dude! LOL I went out there while ago and flipped the switch to the warning buzzer: silence! sweet! The red light is also out. Nothing but amber babes. LOL
