dryer gets hot but won't dry clothes
« on: December 18, 2010, 08:10:30 PM »
My dryer (DLE2516W) gets hot but won't dry the clothes.  A check filter light came on, but the filter is cleaned after every use.  I also checked the vent all the way to the outside and took of the front panel and cleaned the unit.  There is also a good amount of water in the vent hose as well as a small amount coming out of the front.

When the dryer is running is there a good volume of air coming out of the vent?

I would check for lint build up around the blower housing. You will need to disassemble the dryer to check the blower housing.

Also, hold down on the 'More Time' and 'Less Time' buttons and press the 'Power' button.  if it comes up with tE1 or tE2 you have a thermistor error.

I held down the more & less time buttons while pushing the power button and the following code came up.  It was flashing "IU02" and then "I8E8".

Those are not a problem, and shows that you don't have a thermistor error.  How old is the unit and how long is the vent?

It is a little over 2 years old.  The vent runs up the wall about 6 feet and 90s out about another three to four feet to the outside.  I ran a wet dry vac from both sides and couldn't find any blockage.

I take it you have the matching washer, was this on just one load?  Is it possible the washer isn't spinning the loads out (set on low or no spin)?  When you had the front off did you also clean out the fan and the dust that runs from the lint screen to the fan?

Yes it's the matching washer but everything seems to be normal there (clothes are spinning properly).  I also cleaned the fan you are talking about.  Is that the blower assembly?

K520 in the diagram below is the blower housing. You may also find that the blower K510 needs cleaning too.

I took off the cover (K240) and cleaned around everything.  I'll try to take it apart further and clean it out some more.  Thanks for the diagram.

To disassemble remove the top first by removing screws in rear. To take off the control remove to screw on each side of the back. All connectors are color coded. Cannot screw up reassemble.Lift control out and up. Control board has 4 screws and is replaced as a unit. Keep the selector knob.
Removing and reversing the door
Remove the screws from opposite side and then remove the latch pull out the latch no wires are there. Take the door off and reverse it then replace the latch and shorter screws for extra holes.
Remove the front:
Disconnect the dryerlight and door switch wires. Move harness out yer way. Remove 2 screws at the base of the door opening and 4 screws along the top. Tip the panel to the front and lifts off. Next remove the top bracket 2 screws each end. Lift brace up and off.
To remove the shroud/panel 4 screws are removed and lifted up and pulled forward. Disconnect the wire to the humidity sensor.
Remove the belt from idler and yank the drum out. (The belt goes under the tensioner then over the pulley then release it and the spring holds everythang in place like a DOT dryer.) The grooved/ribbed surface goes to the tub side.

No luck.  I took it all apart again to clean and that still didn't do anything.

inside the dryer you will see a vent with holes in it, take your vaccumm and vaccumm it, sometimes a thin film develops on there from hairspray, dryer sheets etc, try that
