kenmore front load washer
« on: December 04, 2010, 08:18:14 PM »
I have a Sears Kenmore front load washer, mfg. approx. 06/05. The model/serial are completely obliterated from the sticker inside the door. The matching dryer model is 417.84692500 (you can still read that sticker)

The washer was running a load of towels when it became unbalanced and actually moved itself to the left. (Dryer mounted on top; no pedestals).  It did not finish that cycle; towels were soaked. If you press start, the door locks, all lights seem normal on control screen.
The power comes on, no error messages, then the machine will pump a pint or so of water in or out, then the pump stops. There is a slight motor hum; the control lights and timer work (slower than normal; I set it for a 13 minute rinse/spin cycle that seemed to take 25+ minutes for the timer to complete).

From this information, can you suggest a troubleshoot or solution?

Thanks

Thank you for replying. The drive belt looks normal.  I found a repair data sheet inside. The machine reports an error message on the control panel that corresponds to the following troubleshoot:

"Communication problem. check the wiring between the between the control board and the speed control board."

The wiring looks fine. How can I tell if the wiring is bad?

The model is 417.44092500, I ordered a new control board. After I receive and install, I'll write with the result.

Thanks for posting the model number. I updated the topic to include the model number of your washer.

Did you order the main control board or the motor control board?

Could you post the part number for us?

Hope you find our site helpful.

That's probably the right part.  Be careful when you take it apart.  There are springs behind the buttons that like to go flying.

I received and installed the control board. Same condition exists. The troubleshoot guide says 'if the problem is not corrected, replace the speed control board.'

Can you tell me what the speed control board looks like and where it might be located?

The speed control is located inside the washer, mounted onto the base in the left hand corner.  You must remove the bottom front panel to gain access to it.   They are not to bad to change.

Thanks for the information. The troubleshoot guide for 417.44092500 states to replace the speed control board if the problem is not the wiring or the control board. I searched for the term 'speed control board', which returns no result.
Is this part known by another term?

In addition to my last question, I checked the 'repair clinic' website, but did not find 'speed control board'. Indeed, the site did not recognize my model#. Thank you as always.
