Whirlpool Gold Ice Maker
« on: December 04, 2010, 06:54:56 AM »
My ice maker stopped working so I purchased a new unit and installed it a couple of months ago. I cant figure out why the ice maker wont make ice.
The old unit had a bad gear on the timer so I figured the unit was the problem.
I made sure the inferred switch was on and I do get water out of the door.

Your water valve on the rear of the refrigerator may be your problem.

Use this ice maker manual to check your ice maker.

You can jump the "L" to "V" terminals on the ice maker to send power to the water valve.

I completed the tests that you sent me and I cant get the newice maker to respond. I do have 110V AC across the white and black wires. I tried to engage the water vavle and nothing happens I also engaged T and N test points and the timer motor didnt turn. I check the white ice limit switch and made sure I turned it in the counter clockwise position which should be on. Not sure what else it could be unless I received a bad unit.

I had a bad wire harness last week,it took two ice makers to realize what my problem was.Pull your emitter board after ohming your wires to ice maker and jumper the black ,blackwhite wires.

You would jump "T" and "H" to activate the motor.
Did you close the door switch to do your test?
Also check the water fill tube to make sure it is not frozen closed.
You can make a test cord to activate the water valve to find out if it is good.

Sorry... I ment T and H...   I just rechecked the ice maker with the jumper again. I made sure that the infrared receiver was colsed and active. I also closed the door switch as well. Jumping T and H I dont get any motor operation and the ejectors are at the 2 o'clock position. I also jumped the water valve and I dont have any water copming out of the tube. I have had the tube freeze in the past and checked that and it is clear. I noticed niobrara said to pull the emitter board and ohm out the wires up to the ice maker and then jump the black wire to the white/black wire. I'm getting 120V AC and I'm measuring that across the white and white/black wire. I do see a brown wire which looks like it feeds back to the water valve and the green is ground.

I went out in the shop to work and just came back in and found the discharge arms have moved for the first time since replacing the ice maker. I think the door switch might have allowed the jumper across T and H reset the the ice maker... I will wait until tomorrow to see if I have ice. I didn't feel any water in the tray but it may take a cycle before it starts to make ice. :)

Hi dray. You stated that you jumpered the water valve and didn't get any water flow. Did you jump it from the water valve with a test cord? If thats the way you did it and there was no water then the valve is bad and all you will get is invisible ice cubes.

I jumpered at the ice maker not the valve. I looked this morning and I had the invisible ice cubes you were talking about. I dont under stand why the ejection arms stay in the same position all the time. You would think the ice maker would continue to try and make ice even though the water wasn't flowing to the tray. I will check the valve after Church today... Thanks for your help!
