Whirlpool Gas Range
« on: November 19, 2010, 10:51:49 PM »
I bought this Range about 3 years ago and it worked fine until tonight....Wife cooked in it and then went to turn the broiler on and it would not ignite! Now the Oven and the Broiler do not work but the top burners work and ignite fine. When you turn the oven or broiler on you get a single click on broiler and double clicking on oven but it never ignites and i know there is no gas being let out. Can this be the spark module? Or would the top ignitors on the range burners not ignite either? Any help is appreciated!

If the top burners work then you don't need a new DSI control. If any of the terminals are open on the gas distribution valve the oven won't work. You should get a reading of 216 between all the terminal of the valve.

Here is your DSI service manual

Okay so i checked resistance on the three electrical connections on the gas valve and found the broiler one had no resistance at all no reading. So i was going to place an order for the gas valve. Today i noticed stove locked itself and i unlocked it and tried the oven again and it fired up! Tried broiler and will not fire up and tried oven again and it would light......turned off let it sit a few minutes and oven fired up again and have not tried broiler again. Could this still be the solenoid for the broiler if the oven fires up?

Wait till your better half has a turkey in the oven to find out. LOL
According to the manual if one side is bad the whole shebang is bad. Could be a corrosion on the terminals problem. By you yanking out the wire to do the checks might just have it fixed. I say if it works then go with it. Let us know. Good post.

That's what I'm worried about a half done Turkey!!
Looks like as long as I stay away from broil it will
Be okay, soon as you push broil it won't work!
Do you think it can still be the gas valve? More likely
To be the board? There was no corrosion at all on the
Terminals.

Well i went ahead and replaced the valve/regulator valve and still the oven and broiler do not work!! I guess the only thing left is the DSI Board but my top burners work fine, could it be the
DSI board?

The DSI is what distributes the spark but the ERC controls the oven using a sensor to determine the heat in the oven. If the top burners are lighting then the DSI board is fine and you have a problem in the ERC (electronic range control). What about your oven sensor have you checked that?
