MAYTAG ELECTRIC DRYER **NOT WORKING**

Hello All.....  

Im new to the site and I have a problem I've been trying to figure out out on a Maytag PYE4500 Electric Dryer that wont operate AT ALL....(no light, no spin....nothing)

So heres the deal........

Dryer receptacle has proper 240v across pair and 120 per side to neutral/gnd.

Now after doing some research I was told the thermal fuses tend to blow due various reasons etc etc.  i check th thermal fuse and sure enough....No Good !!!

so i decide to bypass the thermal fuse by taping the wires together just to see if everything will operate.  After taping together I now have the interior light working but thats about it...dryer still wont turn on.

Timer....seems to be clicking away and operating properly plus I also metered terminlas on back of timer while aqjusting knob settings....fine

Heating element.....getting continuity and no signs anywhere of any arcs, sparks or breaks......fine

Door switch....ohmed out with meter and working fine while depressing pin everytime.........fine

So my question is whatelse could my problem be

I am going to pick up a LA-1053 thermal fuse/ high limit stat kit tomorrow b/c I hear it is proper practice to change both at same time.  

I just want to know why when I bypass the thermal fuse the light now operates but thats about it...  

is there a secondary thermal fuse I should now about?

Dryer lint trap system and exhausting vents were pretty much all clear and free from and crazy blockages.

Any help here would be great guys/gals.

Check the blower wheel. History shows they have a tendency to slip on the motor shaft causing excessive heat in the drum. This makes the clothes take longer periods of time to dry and near the end of the longest drying period the dryer thermal fuse is ready to say adios stick a fork in me I am done.

Thanks for the quick reply......

However, blower wheel seems to be in fairy good shape and as I try to spin the wheel by hand it is snug and theres alot of tension and drum slowly turns as the blower wheel moves.  I would figure that if the blower wheel spun freely then I would have an issue.....sound right??

So as I was turning the blower wheel I held the drum back slightly with my free hand and the wheel wouldnt turn as free telling me that the blower is not slipping and everything would seem to be fine there.

I was curious as to what else would cause the dryer to NOT operate even though I've jumped the thermal fuse and now the light turns on but nothing else is operating.

Actually not sure if I mentioned it in the original post but I've ohmed out the door switch and it works fine....... 

also, when i taped the 2 leads from the thermal fuse together to bypass...... the light came on and as i depress the door switch it would shut off.   

are there any other thermal fuses I might not know about on this model??

btw: the pics u attached were awesome and exactly what my model looks like

You got a bad timer then or either you ain't paid the electric bill. Take the timer apart and check for a burr on the leaf switch. Seen it.

Well the electricity bill is paid I know that........lol

As for the timer I guess I could open it up..... sorry but what exactly do u mean by a "burr on the leaf switch" ?

Is that some type of debris, or pc of metal etc ?

On the leaf switch just inside the timer give it a look see for a burr built up between the points. Just enough to foul the timer but not enough to kill it. A wee bit of sanding with a stiff fingernail file will sometimes undo the damage.

yup!!!

its clicking away..... i've also ohmed it out and tested it via ohm meter through a troubleshooting step by step process i received from an appliance repair tech.......

im going to try andfigure this out once and for all today....... its starting to bother me

when u say start switch do u mean timer ?

b/c this dryer does not have an actual seperate push button or start knob.  its basically all part of the timer selector...... unless u mean door switch???  which in that case i have checked and working properly.

That's what I am talking about. You take the top cover off the timer carefully and their is a leaf switch that does the starting. Use a fingernail file to smooth out the points.
