You will have to have the model number. If I had to guess I would say the rollers are bad but we need the model number to make sure it even has rollers.
Most of them did so assuming it does the drum rides on rubber rollers (two at the back and maybe one at the front). When the rollers fail/wear out it can sound like the dryer is going to fall apart.
Also Maytag dryers are bad about the blower wheels stripping out. When this happens the motor turns but the blower will not so you will get a horrible noise.
