WHIRLPOOL DRYER GEQ9800LG WON'T TURN ON

Hi, I don't know what to do.  My dryer won't turn on.  The light goes on when I open the door, but the dryer doesn't turn on when I push START.

Open the door and look for the door switch tab. Push on the door switch tab and see if you can hear the door switch click on and off.

If you can't hear the door switch click on and off chances are the door switch is bad.

If the door switch is ok there are a few other simple things it could be that are also cheap to repair.

1. If your house has fuses instead of a breaker panel then you need to check the fuses for the dryer outlet. A electric dryer will have two house fuses (unless you have breakers for the house) and if one fuse is bad the dryer light will work, but the dryer will not run. If you can not tell if the fuses are bad simply pop in a couple new ones and try the dryer again.

2. This model dryer has a safety switch on the motor so if the belt breaks the dryer will not start. You can check to see if the belt is broken by removing the bottom panel below the door.

3. If all the above checks out ok then you will need to get to the back of the dryer and check the thermo fuses.

It's not the house fuse because otherwise the light wouldn't go on when I open the door.  I'll see if I can find the manual to get into the bottom and back.  Thanks for now; might need help later.

Woops, sorry, didn't read the whole thing about the fuses.  I'll check.  Actually asking for a friend who can't figure out this website.  :-)  so I don't know all details

This dryer has the filter inside the door. The thermal fuse and heat control is mounted on the blower housing. The limit on the blower housing blows and your dryer won't run anymore. Give it a good hoovering out. Replace the thermal limit and party on.

I looked on the parts list.  Is the Thermal Fuse the same as Part number AP3094224  Thermal cut-off for dryer heating element 360 degrees (includes high-limit thermostat) ?

you need to remove the back panel
there will be a thermal fuse there(looks like a small white firecracker with 2 wires attached)
manufacturer part number is 3392519
to test you can unplug the 2 wires and tape them togeather, then see if dryer starts
*DISCLAIMER*  DO NOT leave this component bypassed after a quick test, it is  a SAFETY device
replace the part, if it fails second time you either have a grounded heater of a failed cycling thermostat

if you do leave this bypassed and you burn down your home....   serves you right for not listening

if this fuse is burnt you need to check/clean all your venting from front to back, and make sure you dont have a plugged screen on your vent on the outside of your home
