New Service Manual Download System.
« on: March 17, 2008, 03:13:14 PM »
Wanted to give you guy's a heads-up as to what I am working on.

We have a new download system for service manuals that I have just put in place.

You can use this link to see it.

http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?action=downloads

Everyone will be able to view this link, but only AJ Team members will be able to submit service manuals.

What I want to do with this new system is collect on the service manuals that can be found online.
All the public domain service manuals.

Such as the ones at ServiceMatters.com

Here is how you can add manuals to our site.

Click on Category Name:> Add a Download> Then just fill in the info.

We want the URL for the service manual, don't submit the file itself. In other words use the Upload Url:

Do not use the Upload File: as we are only looking for service manuals that are public domain at this time.

In the Description: Please put how many pages, file size and a description of what models it covers or list model numbers.

Once you submit a new service manual and I approve it a new topic will be created so everyone can see that a new manual has been added.

Lots of new stuff to work with here, so if you have questions just ask.

Thanks,
 AJ

A little more info on this.

The new topic is created automatically for you once your service manual is approved.

The topic will be place in the new Appliance Repair Service Manuals board.

So in other words with every aproved service manual your post count will go up one, if I have everything working. :)

Slick~!

Going to give this a try when I get home tonight.

The url we submit for the manual I would guess is going to end it .pdf right?
All the manuals I have seen online are pdf files.

Thats correct.

You will need to open the pdf file at the website your getting them from.
Copy and paste the http://....pdf and get some other info from it such as how many pages and files size.

We don't want to upload the file itself, just collect all the info.
This will let us put together a great collection of service manuals from all over the internet, keep stats on them, etc..

The AJ team members will also get credit with the post it creates. Should be able to pull some other stats off of this info to as we collect it.

Thanks for helping whirlpooltech.

You can get to this site from servicematters.com too, but here is a link.

Put in the model number, find the manuals.

AJ That manual might be just in time. It turned out the pump was leaking on the washer I fixed just now and I noticed that thang had a new looking lid switch mounted on it with no strike! must be magnetic. This washer won't wash with the lid open like the older ones did. The pump and everthing underneith was the same but the timer was a weird black looking thing. Creepy. LOL! Now yall don't laugh at me because I am retired. My friends do brang stuff to me to fix anyway. Hay I made a quick 20 bucks. And all I had to do was show him how to do it. How cool is that?
May the hinges of our friendship
        never grow rusty.

About the icons: The beer is tip link, if a tech saves ya some money buy em a 6 pack. The small green square=personal message. The green dot is a link to my web page on appliance repair and other general BS I love to post. The letter sends me email.
I love fan letters! LOL

Awesome idea and I will be glad to help too..

Here is the frigidaire service site.

Frigidiare Service

User name: Service
Password: Tips

It's the same user name and password for everyone and this information can be found posted online in a number of different sites.

There service manuals are not secure! In other words once you log in, get the url to the service manual you can post the url, email it to your buddy or what ever and they can click on the url for the service manual without ever having to sign into the frigidaire site. :)

Check it out, here is a url for a frigidaire service manaul.

http://www.frigidaire.com/tip/servicecd/Content/Dehumidifier/5995435103_2005%20Dehumidifier.pdf

To get the pdf info, just right click on the service manaul title, click on properties and the pdf url shows up, copy and paste. :)
