oven controls not responding

Wife was baking tonite at 400 degrees, rolls were fine and the next minute they were burnt. Turned oven off, and about an hour later I walked by and could see the oven glowing on the top element. Tried to turn off ( appeared to be off according to control ), would not respond. Ended up dropping breaker to shut off and left breaker dropped and went to work. Anybody heard of this before? Is it safe to continue using?, or should I just replace? If I repair, what will be the cost?. Thanksgiving is coming!

Sounds like a shorted element. watch this:

Obviously if the control was to blame OR the element was shorted then you would have that element heating.  Not a common thing but it could happen. Faulty relay in the control, shorted element? Let us know.

Thanks for the info. Sounds like your more apt to think it is the control board. The element being shorted would explain why the oven was off, but the element is still being powered. Your saying a faulty control board could also do this and show on the panel that it is off?

It could if the element is shorted OR a relay in that control was stuck maybe.

Most likely the broil relay on the control is shorted closed. This would keep the broil element on all the time. You would have to replace the control board.
