Whirlpool Duet Dryer does not start but light comes on
« on: October 19, 2010, 09:49:27 AM »
So I have been reading some of the threads relating to the same problem im having. Im ready to fix it. The light in the drum still comes on. Is this the Thermistor? Not the Thermal fuse???
Thanks Jake

This video shows how to get into a dryer like yours. Note it shows how to replace a thermistor. Right beside the thermister is the fuse you want to swap out. That skinny fuse with one screw holding it onto the blower housing is the thermal limit. Make sure the dryer vent is clear or this puppy will keep blowing.

Thanks so much for that great how to video Im comfident now I can fix this. Im still confused, in the video it shows the Thermistor on the right but I dont need to order the Thermistor? I need to order the one fuse to the the left held on by one screw? I have looked on the diagram part list but cant find it. What is it called? And this is the part I will need if the dryer wont start? All other control lights and interior lights come on. Just wont start

I looked up the model and sure enough yours don't have one of them skinny boys on there. The limit on the heater element must be it. EDIT NOPE that themal fuse IS there. SEE the post below.

Diagram WED8300SW0

Check number 47 for continuity and let me know. I ain't worked on this newer one yet. Would love to know if that is it. I have worked on tons of these DOT dryers. Just this newer one I ain't had the pleasure of workin on yet.

OK I been looking at the tech sheet just now and that fuse is there right where the video shows it. The parts list don't show it. Take that kick panel off and you should be able to locate a tech sheet for that dryer.

Whirlpool Duet Dryer Thermal Fuse Part # 33001762

It is 196 degree melt able fuse connected to a light blue wire that goes to the broken belt switch. That light blue wire is common to the motor so if that fuse is open the motor won't run. The electronics will work but the motor ain't gonna get no power.

Maybe the service manual would be of some help.
You can download the service manual for your dryer at this URL.

I had one of these issues last month. Everything would light up but would not start. If your fuses are good then most likely the Electronic control board mounted on the left side top is bad. I did not replace it cause it was too expensive. I did get it to fire up a couple times but a relay in the board kept making a loud clicking noise.

Also JW, these dryers are the same inside as the Kenmore 90 series dryers with the removeable bottom kick panel.
