LG bottom Freezer french door error "ER 1F"
« on: October 11, 2010, 05:06:32 PM »
Please help, LG LFX25960ST  Iím getting a error code ďER 1FĒ and the problem indicate to be a ice fan motor signal not detected.  The troubleshoot steps indicate the possibly of the fan motor or the main PCB.  The error resets every 20 min or so and it continue to make ice at a slower pace.  This indicate to me that the Ice fan motor is still blowing and perhaps the main PCB is becoming unstable and not detecting the motorís presence.  My dilemma is to buy both parts around $150 or have a tech come onsite and do the repair. LG has a 7 years warranty on close system what every that means and I will have to pay for the labor.  Both parts are somewhat easy to access but LG will not reimburse me for the part directly.  Any suggestion?

Thanks for any direction.

Here are some info from the Service Manual and the 2 parts I found is

Icew Fan Motor                                    PCB Main
Number:  5209JA1044A    and                 EBR34917102

Abnormality of
BLDC FAN Motor        Error "ER IF"    It is caused when      F/BPoor BLDC Motor
FAN motor operating                      Signal isnít over115    connection, DRIVE IC,
for Ice Making                              seconds during BLDC   and TC

If you down to the fan or the board replace the fan first. Then replace the board (if needed) and you will have a new fan motor to go with it without paying a tech.

Thanks,

I've pull the ice fan unit out and the motor seems to spin freely and when I toggle the front door and put my hand on the ice blower vent, I can feel the cold air which indecate to me that the fan is blowing.  The ice fan unit only have 3 wires to the motor and I'm not sure what is triggering the error code on the main PCB.

Maybe one of the sensors is out of spec.

The circuit diagram is not the best from LG but there is only three wires going to the motor and I can not find another sensor that sense the ice fan unit.

That's the problem, I can't find the sensor, what is monitoring the fan movement or the temperture inside the ice maker?

P.S. the ice maker is located on the top R/door not in the freezer.

Thanks for all your help.

On page 8 shows the defrost assembly, I too was wondering if that defrost assembly has that sensor in it and therefore it is not mentioned in the crappy manual. LOL. For such a machine they don't tell ya much do they?

This article was very helpful and I wanted to contribute my problem and how I resolved it.

attached is an illustration on how to trouble shoot whether to replace the PCB main board, Fan motor or just clear up the ice around the fan motor blade.

before you do anything I would recommend checking to see if you have ICE build up in the freezer, if so check If cold air comes out of the side duct (see jpg). if no air comes out you will have to remove all the trays from the freezer and remove the back cover carefully (you can flex the plastic to break it loose or just remove one of the rails) once you get the cover a little loose you will see on the left side the ice fan motor (unplug the two connectors red/white) remove the cover and check the fan blade to see if they are locked up with ICE) remove the ice check the blade can move freely.

remove all the ice from the freezer and reconnect the fan and put back the cover carefully. once you have done so plug in the unit and test if there is cold air coming from the top side duct. if you do get air you are done. no need to buy anything :)

if you don't get air you might will have to check the Main PCB by gaining access to the rear panel, once you have located the main PCB check the voltage like shown in the (JPG attached).

there is a trick to test this by putting the PCB in Test 1 mode (unplug the unit and plug and press the test mode button at the same time) then check the voltage. if you don't get 12 -16 volts you will need to replace the Main PCB. if you do get the correct voltage you will need to replace the ICE fan motor.

The part number for the fan motor is listed above is correct but be aware that depending on the serial number the main PCB might be different for example 708 Main Control Board p/n EBR34917104

I hope this helps
