 HYDROWAVE WASHERS, OPEN COIL ON MODE SHIFTER ASSEMBLY, These symptoms can be caused by the motor inverter sending excessive current to the mode shifter coil and opening the coil circuit. This can occur if the customer has lifted the lid during disengage and lifts the lid again during engage for agitate or rinse. Note that some models engage the mode shifter during the fill portion of the cycle. Check the resistance of the mode shifter coil. If there is no resistance, the coil is open and the mode shifter assembly must be replaced. In addition to the mode shifter, replace the motor inverter assembly if the part number on the motor label is one of the following: {open document below to see...} EWA5600G0WW EWA5600G1WW EWA5600G2WW GBSR3140H3WW GCSR2090H6WW GENESISDUMMY GFSR3110H0WW GFSR3110H1WW GFSR3110H2WW GFSR3110H3WW GHDRE527H0WW GHDRE527H1WW GHDRE527H2WW GHDSR209H6WW GHDSR316H0WW GHDSR316H1WW GHDSR316H2WW GHDSR316H3WW GJRR4170H0WW GJRR4170H1WW GJRR4170H2WW GJRR4170H3WW GJSR2080H6WW GJSR3140G0WW GJSR4160H0WW GJSR4160H1WW GJSR4160H2WW GJSR4160H3WW GKSR3140H0WW GKSR3140H1WW GKSR3140H2WW GKSR3140H3WW GNSR3150H0WW GNSR3150H1WW GNSR3150H2WW GNSR3150H3WW GSSR4170H0WW GSSR4170H1WW GSSR4170H2WW GSSR4170H3WW GVSR1060H6WW GWRE6270H0WW GWRE6270H1WW GWSE5240H0WW GWSE5240H1WW GWSE5240H2WW MNSR1090H6WW VBSR3100G3WW VLSR1090G6WW VVSR1030H6WO VWSR4160G3WW WARE5260DCWW WBB2090F2WW WBB2090G6WW WBB4500E6WW WBB4500G0WW WBB4500G1WW WBB4500G2WW WBB6700F2GG WBSR3000G0WS WBSR3000G1WS WBSR3000G2WS WBSR3000G3WS WBSR3140DCWW WBSR3140G0WW WBSR3140G1CC WBSR3140G1WW WBSR3140G2CC WBSR3140G2WW WBSR3140G3CC WBSR3140G3WW WCCB1030F3WC WCCB1030H0WC WCCB1030H1WC WCCB1030H2WC WCCB1030H3WC WCCB1030H4WC WCCB1030H5WC WCCD2050F3WC WCCD2050H0WC WCCD2050H1WC WCCD2050H2WC WCCD2050H3WC WCCD2050H4WC WCCD2050H5WC WCRD2050F3WC WCRD2050H0WC WCRD2050H1WC WCRD2050H2WC WCRD2050H3WC WCRD2050H4WC WCRD2050H5WC WCRE6270G0CC WCRE6270G0WW WCRE6270G1CC WCRE6270G1WW WCRE6270H0CC WCRE6270H0WW WCRE6270H1CC WCRE6270H1WW WCSR2090DCCC WCSR2090DCWW WCSR2090DGCC WCSR2090DGWW WCSR2090G1CC WCSR2090G1WW WCSR2090G4CC WCSR2090G4WW WCSR2090G6CC WCSR2090G6WW WCSR4170DCCC WCSR4170DCWW WCSR4170G0CC WCSR4170G0WW WCSR4170G1CC WCSR4170G1WW WCSR4170G2CC WCSR4170G2WW WCSR4170G3CC WCSR4170G3WW WDSR2080DCCC WDSR2080DCWW WDSR2120J6WW WHDRE526E6WW WHDRR418E6WW WHDRR418G0WW WHDRR418G1WW WHDRR418G2WW WHDRR418G3WW WHDSR109J6WW WHDSR209DCWW WHDSR315DCWW WHDSR316G0WW WHDSR316G1WW WHDSR316G2WW WHDSR316G3WW WHRE5550H0WW WHRE5550H1WW WISR106DGBWW WISR106DGCWW WISR309DGBWW WISR309DGCWW WISR409DGBWW WISR409DGCWW WJRE5500G0WW WJRE5500G1WW WJRE5500G2WW WJRE5550H0WW WJRE5550H1WW WJRR4170E6CC WJRR4170E6WW WJRR4170G0WW WJRR4170G1WW WJRR4170G2WW WJRR4170G3WW WJSR4160DCCC WJSR4160DCWW WJSR4160G0WW WJSR4160G1WW WJSR4160G2WW WJSR4160G3WW WKRE6280DCWW WKSE5260E6WW WLDSR416F2W WLDSR416F2WC WLRE4500G0WW WLRE4500G1WW WLRR4500G0WW WLRR5000G0WW WLRR5000G1WW WLSE4000G0WW WLSR2200J6WW WLSR3000G0WW WLSR3000G1WW WLSR3000G2WW WMCD2050G0WC WMCD2050H0WC WMCD2050H1WC WMCD2050H2WC WMCD2050H3WC WMCD2050H4WC WMCD2050H5WC WNCK2050H0WC WNCK2050H1WC WNRD2050DCWC WNRD2050E0WC WNRD2050G0WC WNRD2050G0WC WNRD2050G1WC WPRB8350H0WT WPRB9220DCCC WPRB9220DCWW WPRE6100G0WT WPRE6100G1WT WPRE6100G2WT WPRE6150H0WT WPRE6150H1WT WPRE6280DCWW WPRE8100G0WT WPRE8100G1WT WPRE8150H0WT WPRE8150H1WT WPRE8320H2WT WPRE8350H0WT WPRE8350H1WT WSERE526F2WW WSERR417F2WW WSRE5260DCWW WTRE6260F2GG WVSR1060DCWW WVSR1060G6WW WWRE6260DCCC WWRE6260DCWW WWSE5240G0WW WWSE5240G1WW WWSE5240G2WW WZRE5260F2GG HLSR1090J6WW HNSR3110H0WW VBSR2060G0WW VBSR3100DCWW VBSR3100G0WW VBSR3100G1WW VBSR3100G2WW VBSR3100G3WW VLSR1090G6WW VVSR1030H6WO VVSR1070DCWW VWSR4150DCWW VWSR4160G0WW VWSR4160G1WW VWSR4160G2WW VWSR4160G3WW EWA6500DCWW GBSR3140H1WW GBSR3140H2WW GBSR3140H3WW GHDRE526G0WW GJSR3140DCWW GJSRP080DCWW GKSR2120DCWW GNSR2140DCWW GUSR2150DCWW GVSR1060H6WW GWSE5190E6WW HNSR2120DCWW HNSRP080DCWW MNSR1070DCWW MNSR1090H6WW WPRE5240E6WW WPRE8320H0WT WPRE8320H1WT

Thanks. I have one of these washers I bought new 3 years ago, and I am waiting for the motor to quit. I have another here with a bad motor and I want to check to see if this is one of the bad ones. What, if anything, is GE doing about this?

My mother's GE Profile Top Load was purchased in August 2008.  The Service Bulletin was released in Jan 2009.  If GE recalled the motors back in Jan 2009 while the warranty is still within the first year, the mode shifter will not be burned out.  This is the argument I used to get them to pay for mode shifter, motor and labor.  YMMV though.

GE crammed the born to fail rotary compressor in their refrigerators for more years than I care to remember, then they crammed the born to fail control board in other fridges without any conscience.
I believe GE does business on percentages of failure vs quantity.

I have made good repair bucks on GE's incompetence.

What is funny about it is GE used to be so reliable years ago. You had confidence to buy a GE simply on that name. Not anymore. You could not melt down any GE mess and pour it on me. It is all junk now. What GE needs to do is go back to the old style top loading washer that made them famous. I would love to be in charge of a retooled factory for GE in my area. I bet I could get em back on track. The Gov needs to crack down on all these so called appliances that are supposed to outperform the older stuff.

I have one of the old GE washers dowstairs right now. Model #WWA8340GAL. Works great till it goes into spin cycle, leaks water. I need to order the top tub gasket and it should be fine. That thing is a tank!

Finally, 2 technicians came this morning to replace the mode shifter and the motor.  My mother washing machine is back in business.

After they left, I checked the motor part number.  It is one of the faulty motor which is  listed in the Service Bulletin.  I am back to almost square one.   :( I cannot believe that GE is still selling the faulty motor after putting out the service bulletin almost 2 years ago.

Well,  >:( have to spend more time to deal with GE or the GE authorized service company or BOTH.

Final update, I hope...
The newly installed motor has the latest part number on the box.  But the drawing number on the motor is one of problem motor listed in the Service Bulletin.  If this motor was modified, it should another label with the new drawing number on the top of the motor.  But there is none.

Instead of paying a technician to change the motor again, GE gives me 2 year extended warranty on the washing machine - just in case the motor is a bad one.  This is a full warranty - not just for the motor and the mode shifter.

I am very lucky to get the 2 years old washing machine repaired for free and get an additional 2 years of extended warranty.  I like to thank you the members who gave me a hand on troubleshooting my problem.  Without their help, I do not have enough evident to proof that GE is at fault with my washing machine.
