MAYTAG MFI2266AEU locked keypad

Hello All,
I am new to this forum so please be kind.
I stumbled across this post while trying to figure out what's wrong with my fridge. Last night DH was filling a pitcher with the water dispenser and I believe we now have the same issue as the original poster of this message. Our Model # MFI2266AEU will not dispense water/ice, we can not change temp or use any of the control panel except the on/off button. Everything is still working, frig/freezer is cooling, door alarm still works still making ice.
I finally found the code inside the fridge to reset the thing, however I'm not sure how to do it. I was initially thinking I would be able to depress the door alarm button for 3 sec. and use the User preference menu but now I see that it will not let me access that either.
My questions - Is that even the correct way to reset the code or am I missing something? And if this is the correct process why can't I access the User Preference Menu?
I'm stumped! Can anyone clear this up for me?
