refrigerator warm
« on: October 01, 2010, 03:51:14 PM »
The freezer section works fine but the refrigerator section is warm. There is frost on the back of the freezer section and the evaporator fan is not running.I found the test sheet and tried to put it into test modes, but nothing happens. The diagram shows to have a JAZZ PCB Board. Can you tell me how to get to it and how to test it.A service manual would realy help.Thank you

That ref is built by Maytag.   service manual for amana bottom mount.

If the evap fan is not running, but the compressor is.  Verify voltage as the wire harness to the evap fan, voltage present = change fan.  No voltage, change Jazz board.

If the fan is operating properly, check the evaporator.  If symptoms of the machine not defrosting are present, check for an open defrost bi-metal.  If its closed, change the jazz board.  I have not seen any defrost heaters go bad on this machine, but im not saying you shouldn't atleast check it.  I doubt it would be that.  Good luck.

I always check my work by going into test mode with the jazz board.

The problem turned out to be the defrost thermostat as you had suggested.I have a question on these thermostats. On this particular refrigerator the defrost thermostat was listed as Opens at 40 degrees closes at 12 degrees, when I went to the parts house, they said to use an universal thermostat that was listed opens 60 closes 25.This is all they sell. They said it would work in any refrigerator. How critical is it to stay with the one that came with the refrigerator?Would it hurt to use the universal one?Just for my knowledge

I personally don't care for universal part especially if the specs are not even close to the original and the original part can still be had yet.

I looked up your model number and found that the factory part number for the defrost thermostat is W10165425.

Hope you find our site helpful.
