Whirlpool dishwasher won't stop running

Hi,
   I have a Whirlpool Model GU980SCGTT dishwasher that just keeps cycling. We have kept the door open to prevent it. Any ideas of how to fix this without either replacing or calling for a repair Thanks.

Can you stop it by pressing cancel?  It might be stalling waiting for the water to heat up.  After it stalls and has been running awhile, is the water steaming hot, lukewarm or cold? If it's steaming hot, it's either the thermistor or control board.  The thermistor should read about 50KΩ at room temperature and about 12KΩ at 140°F. If it's lukewarm or cold, then there's a problem in the heating circuit. The heating circuit consists of the heater, high limit thermostat, control board and door switch if it has a plastic tub.  Check those components and wiring.
