Ge washer and belt tightness should i change it was never changed from factory

hi all just seeing if you would change the belt tightness when you change the belt my washer has never had it changed from the factory and when i put the new OEM belt on it it seems tighter than it should be.
Iam using the old belt for now not worn just 7 years old.
i noticed with the new belt on you hear more motor noise via the tub.
and the clutch seems to get hot during spin just put a new clutch in to replace the very rusty worn to the point you could stop the tub from turning with a thumb on it with a new one.
i just don't want to put the new belt on the washer and kill the new clutch.
with the new belt being factory should the tightness be changed or left factory and let it stretch with time and use?

thanks that's what iam doing but when the time comes if the machine is still working by then should i put the new one on and let it stretch over time or readjust the tightness right now its the way it was when it left the factory.

1. The new belt is supposed to be tight.
2. The clutch, motor pulley and belt surface are supposed to be hot. Especially a new clutch with new bands...

Nothing is wrong, let the new belt run thru a couple of spin cycles at high speed to help break it in.

ok but JWWebster  recommened i use the old belt untill it wares out its not worn hardly and not glazed .
knowing that do you still say change it ?

No, I'm just saying that a new belt will always fit tighter than an old one...that's the effect of wear on these parts. They stretch after years of use. If your old belt is not glazed or cracked anywhere, I would certainly vote to leave the new belt in the closet until the old one finally dies.

Naturally, JW knows a lot more than I do about this stuff, so we always take his advice first anyhow
