need help with Whirlpool washer

I am trying to figure out what is wrong with my washer and I am scratching my head, I desperately need help.

I replaced the timer on the machine 2 years ago and it was fine up until a few month ago I noticed the machine does not spin on final spin cycle all the time, I also noticed that sometimes when it gets to the spin cycle it starts to spin but the water comes on in the tub while it is spinning a couple times for about 10 seconds, this can't be normal, why would the eater come on when it is spinning? I also noticed when I turn the knob to rinse it fills up then drains without rinsing and then goes into the spin cycle and ends with the timer still in the rinse cycle when I move the timer a hair into the spin cycle it starts to spin again. I thought the machine was only supposed to spin in the spin cycle not the rinse and spin!

Could my timer be bad?

The water coming in is designed to knock down suds. This is normalment mon ami.
Also the transmission has a spin pawl and a neutral drain kit in it. Meaning when the timer first goes into spin the pump pumps out the water only. Then a slight pause is needed to make that spin pawl pop out and catch a boss under the main drive gear which causes the drum to spin.

OK, that makes sense with the water coming on for a few seconds in spin mode. How about the spinning in the rinse cycle and also spinning in spin cycle? I also noticed a little bit of water under the washer this morning that did not come out of any of the hoses.

I plan on taking the washer apart this afternoon to check the pawl spin.

Is the pawl spin inside the gearcase?

The water may be from a leaky drain pump. The no spin could be related to  something stuck in the drain pump.
And Yes, the machine agitates and spins during rinse and during spin.

Yep the spin pawl is inside the gearcase. The manual  Here is an excellent video which shows how the clutch replacement goes. That will help you when you want to go deeper inside the inner sanctions of that thar direct drive tranny LOL
