Dishwasher Kitchenaid KD21 Is this washer necessary?
« on: August 04, 2010, 06:49:03 PM »
My 23-year old dishwasher was on the blink again. I removed everything I could from the inside of the cabinet and thoroughly cleaned it with vinegar.

Then I discovered this VERY valuable thread:

http://appliancejunk.com/forums/index.php?topic=514.0#msg2463

I learned about Dishwasher Cleaners (and used one), and switched to a better brand of dishwashing soap.

In the meantime, I busted a washer (attached). So far, everything's working better than before, but curious if any of you experts advise replacing the washer.

Thanks everyone for this appliance-saving forum.

Without that washer, your lower spray arm will have 1/2 the force it did to wash dishes. It used to come with the new spray arm support , except they don't make that piece any longer.

Thanks, Repair-man. I'll dig out some Gorilla Glue and see if I can patch it up.

It took a minute to realize the washer can't be glued.

I found a bearing ring that seems as if it'd work. What's your professional opinion?

It's hard to offer a professional opinion on a part that was not specifically made for the unit you have. I would not know whether the ring will fit yours or not. The model number was not listed  among those it supposedly fits on the parts page., so it will be a crap shoot for $3.00
