Maytag Performa Washer-- About to die?

The washer has always worked well, only 2 years old. Today, however, during a load it didn't spin-- smell of burning rubber and smoke.
Looked at the belts and they are intact. Seemed loose, but I don't know how tight they should be.
Spun the belts, no change. Turned the washer on spin cycle, then stuck my arm in and messed with the tub, and it started spinning.
Now, so far, it is working. Any suggestions?
Does this mean the washer is at death's door? It still looks new

What is the model number of the washer?

Remove the belt and check for a locked up water pump by trying to spin it by hand. If so replace it. Easy to do, only three bolts and a couple hoses with clamps.
