Maytag dishwasher appears dead
« on: July 24, 2010, 02:27:08 PM »
Ok...the unit appears to be without power, but I found out the hard way that there is power to the unit.     The control panel won't won't light up and it will not come on.    Had someone tell me it is the control board.    Does this sound right to anyone out there and if so, is it a part that a guy that is all thumbs can change?

You do not need to change the control board.  After you ensure that the door lock assy. has power, and does work, Go ahead and replace your touch pad/console.

How do I tell if the lock is working?    The door latches fine.

1.  Turn power off to the machine
2. Open the door, and remove all the stainless torx screws that hold the inner door to the outer door.
3.  With a continuity tester, make sure the switches on the latch assy read as closed when the micro switch's are pressed in. Make sure you remove the wires off the switch's before you check them.  There are only 2, one has white wires, and the other black wires.

If they both show closed, then order that panel.  It is a very common problem with these, I must change 20 or more panels to 1 latch for no power calls.

Schaffersapplian  ,I too change a lot of consoles but it bothers me that I do it by a process of elimination . Do you have a way to actually trouble shoot the console (other than relying on the symptoms ) .I have one customer that has gone through 3 consoles in a year and I am at a loss as to why . I've asked if she uses an ammonia base to clean the thing but she says no . The problem is always the same either dead or only some buttons light up .

Yea, I as well had a few machine's give me more then 1 bad console in less then a year.  It seems like I do the same as you.  If I get power to the door lock, and the control board. I always change the console.  I don't know of any rhyme or reason as to why it happens.
