My washer- Whirlpool- stops in mid cycle

My wife has been complaining that the washer sometimes stops in mid cycle and she has to help it by advancing the timer into the rinse and spin cycle.... It doesn't happen all the time. This would be a timer issue, right? Are there any other causes for this symptom besides the timer and would replacing the timer solve the problem?

Could be a loose or intermittent lid switch.
If lid switch checks out OK,remove the timer wires and then plug them back in tightly.
If that doesn't do it,replace the timer.

Pretty sure it's the lid switch...I stuck a screwdriver in the switch opening and soon the washer continued it's cycle. I put the lid down and came back later and the wash was done and the timer was in the off position.

I'll verify at least one more load of wash goes completely thru with the screwdriver before I order a lid switch....


It would not be that the plastic piece on the lid wore down?

seems like a good bit of travel with the screwdriver till I hear the switch click.

Those lid switches are prone to separating.
This causes more plunger travel to make the switch.
You will see that once you remove it.
