HELP for a novice. Machine will not spin.

The machine will wash, agitate, and drain, but will not spin.  

I have done some of the tests already mentioned for the problems I am having.

Spun the thrust bearing under the machine both ways and the tub doesn't move.  

Popped the top and checked for clothes stuck around the tub. Nothing.

Put into spin cycle and tried to spin the inside tub. It will not budge.

What is the problem here?  Will the machine not trip into spin mode? Because it won't budge during spin cycle it makes me think that the brake is locked.

If I replace the thrust bearing will that fix the locking problems.  I saw a post addressing issues similar to mine that said problems can happen if washers from the thrust bearing kit are not set up correctly.

GO AHEAD AND REPLACE THE THRUST BEARING. THERE ARE NO MORE WASHERS TO WORRY ABOUT...THE NEWLY IMPROVED KIT HAS  A LOT LESS PIECES THAN THE OLD ASSEMBLY.

IT SHOULD SPIN AGAIN AS LONG AS THE TUB BEARINGS ARE OK, AND YOU NEVER MENTIONED HEARING A ROARING SOUND DURING SPIN BEFORE IT WENT OUT, SO I AM ASSUMING THERE WAS NONE.
