You did a great job!
I opted to remove the water inlet valve from the frame (disconnecting its hose of course first). That way I didnt have to risk breaking the pipe or the valve.
That is great, I often do that or cut it off and put on a new flex water line.
Then I used my leatherman saw blade to cut off the plastic around the shaft.
Got to love them leatherman multi-tools. I use one daily and they have a thousand uses.
