ThermaCell Mosquito Repellent Appliance
« on: July 17, 2010, 09:27:34 AM »
I have been meaning to try one of these for sometime now.

http://www.mosquitorepellent.com/index.asp

After reading just about nothing but good reviews about them online I'm going to go buy one today.

Do you own one or have had the chance to use one?

Hope you find our site helpful.

Never used anything like that before. I was thinking about getting one of them Off clip on's but man them thangs are expensive. I will continue to perfume myself with deep woods off. That seems to be the only thing besides BP that can tame the swamp.

I have used one for 4 years.
I strongly recommend them.
When I have an AC condenser call,I place one on or near the unit.Give it 5 minutes, them start work.
It keeps the mosquitos at bay.
I am in Florida with plenty of mosquitos.
P.S. It is not great in a breeze.

Glad to hear your happy with yours jumptrout51.

I picked up one at wal-mart today. I went to pay for it and the lady at the cash register started telling me how good they were. She goes on to tell me she has a sister that lives in Canada and her sister swears by theres.

I got to use it twice today. The first time it was still light out and I was grilling supper. When I started grilling it was windy and there was no bugs, but then the wind died down and the flies come out.

I fired up the ThermaCell and was able to eat my supper outside without the flies bothering me.  O0

I wanted to try it after dark tonight, but the wind was blowing again. So after dark I went out to the garage, turned on the lights and left the door open.

It did not take long for the garage to fill up with mosquitoes!

Once again I fired up the ThermaCell and this time I set it on the bench in my garage directly below a light that was just swarming with mosquitoes.

I went back in the house for ten minutes and when I come back out to the garage the only thing flying around the light was a month.  O0

So far I'm very happy with how it has worked.

I will be taking it with me to the riffle range Sunday as there always seem to be flies under the shooting benches that bite our legs and ankles.

Are they made out of cheap plastic or higher quality plastic?

$22 bucks @ wally world. Not too bad. I was wondering what sort of gas bottle is used for the delivery of the product. I am guessing that the refill contains the product with the propane.  Any thoughts on that? I was reading over testimonials for the product and came across this little ditty: I bought this based on the online reviews. I read the package on the way home and it said repells mosquito's and black flies. I thought wow I hope this works but really didn't believe the flies thing. Well, we got home and turned it on and there were at least 5 mosquito's at 2pm in the afternoon and about 15 flies around our porch. We went inside and came back out about 30 minutes later and there were no flies and no mosquito's it was great! It comes with one butane container and 3 cartridges. It says lasts 12 hours, I thought that meant per cartridge but it means all together. The only bad thing about it is that the refills are almost $9 and that lasts for 12 hours so it would cost you $9 a day at least to keep them off your porch. If you just use it for special occasions like hunting it would be fine but when its an everyday thing it can be expensive but I must say....well worth it!

I am guessing that the refill contains the product with the propane.

The blue mat that you slip under the grill of the unit contains the repellent.

How it works

Quote
ThermaCELL uses revolutionary, patented technology to dispense a small amount of repellent into the air over a long period of time. ThermaCELL is powered by a butane cartridge which provides the cordless, portable heat necessary to operate the device (batteries are not needed). It directs the heat to a metal grill. A mat saturated with Allethrin, a copy of a naturally occurring insecticide found in chrysanthemum flowers, is placed on top of the metal grill. The heat generated by the butane cartridge vaporizes the repellent allowing it to rise into the air, creating a 15 x 15 ft (225 sq ft) “Mosquito-Free-Zone” in minutes. The repellent is very unpleasant to mosquitoes, but when used as directed, will not harm humans or pets.

Today my son and I spend a couple bug free hours out at the riffle range thanks to the ThermaCell Mosquito Repellent Appliance.

All the other days we have gone out there this summer we have had to put up with flies biting at our legs when sitting at the benches they have out there.

Today the first thing I did was start up the repellent appliance and set it under the bench. After that we went out and set up some targets.

We could see the black flies around the garbage can and the bench next to ours, but none on or under our bench.

I'm so happy with the way this thing has worked in the few times we have tried it so far that I went back to walmart and purchased three more of them today.

Hope you find our site helpful.

I have used the ThermaCell Repellent Appliances for years and love them.

I don't have the compact unit, but have been thinking of purchasing one.

From what I have read on there website about the compact model it seems to have a switch to start it, but to turn it off you have to unscrew the fuel cartridge.
