I just inherited this Fridge.  Original owner took very good care of it, but said he had never hooked up the ice maker.  Back of fridge ice maker hook-ups look ready-to-go: water line in place above water inlet hookup.  I know our water supply works because I just removed previous fridge with working ice maker.  But with water supply hooked up to this "new"/old fridge, there is no water going thru the unit's plastic water tube on back of fridge = no ice.  Hope you can help me get ice maker working.  Thanks very much.

Try adding some water to the IM to get it going.

Unless something is broken it may need to cycle 2 or 3 times to purge the air in the line.

I added water to the IM tray yesterday afternoon and it was frozen within a short while.  I flipped the on/off arm several times [today & yesterday].  The frozen water in IM is still there now.  The fridge has been plugged in and water supply to IM for nearly 48 hours.

Have you got a thermometer? The temp needs to be 25f for the ice to harvest.

No, I don't have a thermometer [tho I know I could go get one].
Other info on net has said the freezer temp needs to be 5 degrees - ?
Even so, what else can I troubleshoot?

GE IM6 service manual

Is your ice maker like the one in the above manual or is it older?
Does it make round or crescent cubes?

Here's a photo.  It's not like the one in the Manual; it must be older.  It has no on/off button [like Manual], but rather the wire lever, and it makes crescent cubes.

That looks like it is a modular type ice maker. If it is full of ice but won't dump that means you need to bust it open and replace the thermostat. All you do is yank out the feeler arm and take the head off. Then remove the frame from the ice mold and replace the thermostat.
Before you do that you can see if it is gonna harvest by jump starting the harvest cycle.

Well..excuse me, and I apologize from the git-go, but stupid me can't figure what exactly you instruct that I should do next.  I am absolutely humbled by my ignorance in attending this problem, and am ever humbled to ask for help.  But the "instructions" you last gave leave me feeling helpless.  Surely you didn't intend to make me feel this way.  You say I need to, "bust it open...yank out the feeler arm and take the head off.  Then remove the frame from the ice mold and replace the thermostat."
And then you say, "Before you do that you can see if it is gonna harvest by jump starting the harvest cycle."  Well, how do I do that?
So Sorry ~ I am a fool.  I am not uP to your level of understanding.
I'm just trying to see if this older fridge can be fixed to function properly.
