« on: July 04, 2010, 05:39:48 AM »
This has been a very good freezer, but about every 6 months the bottom part where the drain is freezes up and I have to take everything out and use the hair dryer to thaw it out. Then I put hot water thru the drain till opened. Now I'm good for about anouther 6 months. Is there a soultion to this problem?

Yes there is...  strip a piece of #12 solid wire down and wrap 1/2" of it around the Calrod defrost heater that sits over the drain. Run the other end of this wire down into the drain about 1" or so. This should help a lot.

Also, set the temp control down at least 1 notch....you may be getting it too cold while not compensating for the huge humidity we are all facing as a result of the wet winter, spring and summer most of us are having. You cannot set it too low, as it is a freezer. As long as the temps in the  middle shelf are at 0 to -15 degrees, the food is fine.
