whirlpool ref.\freezer temp

The freezer temp runs from a low of -5 to -10, up to +40. It seems to be on app. 12 hr. cycle.  The compressor will run for 3-5 hrs. & the temp drops.  The compressor does not run for 7-8 hrs. & the temp. climbs.
I had a local repairman look at it & he declared the "adaptive defrost controller" defective. After replacement, absolutely no change in the behavior.  The repairman refunded (most) of my money & washed his hands, saying he had no way of diagnosing the problem, & couldn't afford to throw parts & time at it.
What could be the problem?

OK I is revising this post. You have a standard cold control according to the TECH SHEET. I would say if the defrost heater and terminator are both fine and you have replaced the adc then you must have a bad cold control. I am assuming the repair guy has determined the condenser fan motor and compressor relay is not the issue. You either have a bad cold control or the probe on it is out of position. Keep in mind them Embraco compressors had a shoddy production run a while back.
