1 Month old LWHD1009R cooling issue

I have a month old LG LWHD1009R Air Conditioner. I have noticed the last 2-3 days the units compressor doesn't kick on as loudly as it has been.  Since this started I have noticed the  unit  hasn't been cooling the room as well also.


Any input?

Pull the front cover off, turn it on for a few minutes,   Does the evaporator get cold?

It should be under warranty.  I would call LG and let them get a Technician out to your house

Yes it gets cold. Home Depot has a 90 return policy so i can bring it back to them. This 1009R is last years model and is a bit smaller than the newer 10,000. So i would like to keep it  if possible.

Could the  outside temp effect the performance? I know my main question was on the compressor.

I'm not quite sure how much compressor run time should be, but If its the same as a fridge, ambient temp does play a huge roll.  I don't know how accurate this is, I was told this by another tech, not a book, or a school but.

A good rule of thumb is:

The ambient temp around the machine is 90 degrees
That machine will run 90% of the time.

The ambient temp around the machine is 82 degrees
It will run 82% of the time.

Now this is a good rule of thumb for a Fridge like I said.  I don't think it will apply to a Air conditioner.
I have way less experience in Air Conditioning. 

I bet one of our other techs will be able to help you out alittle better then me.
Now if it was a Maytag washer.  I'd be all over that for ya!

Come to think of it.
The compressor issue happened after I was running this 10,000 & a 12,000 in the other room and they tripped the breaker.

You cannot have 2 ac's on one breaker, If the warrany guy finds out it is on a circuit with another ac he gonna void the warrany. Electrical problem.

Do you think this could have damaged the unit?

No.

One month or less of use isn't likely to cause damage.

Some newer air conditioners do not cool when the outside air temp drops below a certain temp.

No the unit is not damaged. Just ain't getting enough juice. But that gives em an excuse to void the warranty.

What have the temperatures been during this time?

Are you in an area that is humid or desert-dry?

I'm in MA 75-80 with some humidity.

My 12,000 I purchased the same time still is ice cold and when the compressor kicks on it nice and strong as the 10,000 once was.

Do the compressors break in and become quieter over time?

I haven't done a look-up on your specific unit, but...

Generally compressors get noiser as they get older.

Compressor starting sound or vibration will be different depending on the temperture as well.

Let's focus on the *performance* of the unit.

During the hottest periods of the day---operate the window/wall unit at 75% cooling capacity (11am to 6pm)

Operate the unit during the evening hours at 25% to 50% cooling capacity.

Again---I'm assuming that this unit has the more basic controls.
