Whirlpool leaves clothes wet

Whirlpool washer model LSQ9564MQ0 at times will not go into spin cycle. However I can cycle the dial around to the spin cycle and it works fine. Also it doesn't do it all the time. I've read some posts with similar problems and believe it may be the timer. Is this a safe bet? Also how do I change this out? Thanks.

We need a little more info to properly diagnose the machine.

When the machine acts up, does the timer just "stop" where its at, or does it continue to the off position leaving you only with clothes that are sobbing wet?

When it doesn't spin, does all the water go out?

Sounds like the timer, but that is just an educated guess.

Yes the timer continues to run leaving the clothes wet. And yes the wAter does leave when it doesn't spin. Makes a noise while it's doing this.

That most likely is a broken drive coupling. The water is pumped out so the lid switch must be ok. Therefore I would check the coupling for breakage:

Drive coupling looks normal. Will replace just in case though. Anything else it could be while I have it disassembled? Thanks

Run the machine until it stops and pumps out the water then fails to spin.
This is most likely at the final spin position.
Open then close the lid to see if it spins.
If it does,replace the timer.
