Help! Telescoping Downdraft Vent won't close

Hey all,  

A few months back I was cleaning my stovetop and I guess I got the button on the top of the vent wet.  It sent a steady shock up my arm when I tried to touch it to open it up.  Not knocking me back or anything, but uncomfortable.   Then it stopped.

Now it will not work at all.

I've got the installation Tech Data Sheet, but I don't think that has the information I need to troubleshoot it and fix it.

Does anyone have any suggestions as to how to fix it, or..  should I just break down and call an appliance guy?

Maybe you throwed the breaker when water got in that switch and shorted it out?
Thats one of them sliding switches ain't it? Unplug the vent hood and see if you have 120 to the receptacle up in the cabinet above the stove. See if you have continuity from either leg of the plug to the vent hood. You will know you have a short for sure then. maybe inside that wiring box one of them wires have vibrated loose and is grounded to the hood. Be careful.
