208 VOLT SERVICE
« on: June 20, 2010, 08:56:42 PM »
I have a business customer that owns/operates two large retirement high-rise buildings.

In one of the laundry rooms the vended Whirlpool dryers are on a 208 volt service. The dryers take too long to dry the laundry.

Does anyone have a solution for the longer dry time on 208 volts?

Is it possible to replace the timer motor and install one with a slower speed (rpm) ?

John

you can change the dry times

mechanical timers or electronic?
on mechanical timers you change the white plastic cam for one with less cogs to increase dry times
on electronic timers you can change the program and set the dry time longer

post model # if you need more info on the timer cam or programming

CSP2761KQ2/Mechanical Timers

That's great----the retirees have been complaining about having to add more quarters to finish the laundry.

Seemed like the only way to get around the 208 volt issue was to increase cycle run time.

Many thanks BrntToast

Found it.

Cam p/n: 3387974  (60 minute cycle)

The original cams were 4-pin (45 minutes).

Thanks again.

You can also change the motors on some models.

Have you check air flow on the vent ...I have see many of them connected vent together and half plugged vent are a big problem in buildings with mult-units...here in oregon rain gets into the vents a full up the bends.. blocks all or half the vent ...
Check the Basics first!!! Read the Manual !!!Buy the tech a Beer!!!

btw
with those cams you can sometimes just cut off some cogs to increase run time
however i believe the cogs have to be all evenly spaced when you are done
for an hour you need 3 cogs, so you cant cut the 45 minute cam cause the 3 cogs left wont be even
if you ever get a 1/2 hour one you can cut pins till you have 3 left for one hour

This was one of first areas that I examined---and is fine.

Almost immediately I noticed that the heating elements were barely glowing red/orange.

Checked the electrical outlets--then it dawned on me that many commercial buildings do not use 220 volt service.

Thanks---I'll check this out when I replace the 4 cams (possibly today) to verify if this is a possibility on these model dryers.

I finished this today--was very simple to do.

The 4 pin cams do have the pins evenly spaced. The 3 pin cam have pins that are set in a triangular pattern.

With all of the vended 208 volt dryers running 60 minutes instead of the original 45 minutes---the building owners will be happy to see a significant drop in complaints.

Not having the tenants popping into the building office every day to complain and demand new coin-op laundry will make it seem worthwhile.

Most Laundry mat guys want to make more money by speeding up the timer so it will shut down faster requiring more money to be inserted into the machine. My friend has  a contract with several laundry mats in the area. Here is how he does it. He will repair any machine and provide parts for no charge at all anytime. He gets 50% of the take. He totes the keys to the machines. He orders the machines for the owner and installs them. When the natural gas went up sky high he ordered faster cams. He changed motors to ones that ran faster. He added a water well to the rear of some buildings. The water system figured out a way to charge him for sewer use anyways. You can't win.
