An HVAC section
« on: March 04, 2008, 11:23:13 PM »
I answer lots of HVAC questions. Many people have problems with central heating and Air conditioning. Replacing a blower motor or diagnosing a bad ignitor or rollout switch is not as complicated as working on some of these futuristic front loaders. Lets start an HVAC category at some point. I have a lot of old school info and I have learned a lot about the newer models on these types of forums. Hopefully we can make this site the mutha of all HVAC repair sites as it is with Appliances now. What ya think? I was just running that by yall. Are their any other Techs in here HVAC certified. Now about commercial Kitchen equipment repairs...maybe one day too. Did I mention scotsman Ice machines and ice o matic? How come we don't go for that as well?

I like the HVAC idea. Will have to give it some thought.

The only trouble I have with it is I know nothing about it, lol...

How could we work it into the forums?

Maybe a HAVC board with two section?
One for Heating and one for Cooling questions?

Maybe just one new section under "Member Boards" for all HAVC question?

Hope you find our site helpful.

Now you got me thinking JW. :)

I am looking around to see how the other appliance forums are doing there HVAC board.

The Samurai has just one board added to the appliance section like this.

Heating, Ventilation, and Air Conditioning (HVAC)
Central furnaces and air conditioners, window air conditioning units, all the stuff that keeps you warm in the winter and cool in the summer.

Jake over at ApplianceBlog has also just has a section added to the appliance take section of his forums, like this.

HVAC
Central A/C & Heating, Heat Pumps, Ventilation.
Sub-Forums:   Window & Room Air Conditioners

I consider the samurai and applianceblog the two most active appliance repair forums online and watch them daily. :)
If there are more active ones that anyone knows of please let me know.

The HVAC sections on them two sites don't see to be real active. I think there are a number of reasons for that.

When I started our site it was dead for first few weeks so I wrote repair guides to post in the forums.
This gave our forums a more active look when the google spiders come around to index pages. :)

If we start a HVAC section I would like to be able to do something like that again.
Being I m not a HVAC tech I would not be able to do this myself so someone else would have to come up with something.

Would love to hear some more input on starting a HVAC section...

Thanks,
Hope you find our site helpful.

I was the founder of HVAC in samurai forums, you guessed it, I am applianceman18007260692 I was moderator. I got away from it because it loads so slow on my computer. I don't know why but it would take forever to make a reply, plus I had a little thing called retirement come up and then Hurricane Katrina hit my house and garage. Parts of my roof came off the house and my bedroom was ruined. still is. I sleep in the childrens bedroom(they are grown and gone) I lost my father last year and my mother needs constant coddling and has to be taken to the doctor a lot. I wish I had a good pc but this old one came from the appliance parts store when we shut that down. It does not need to be a dedicated section because its mostly seasonal so I am thinking just a utility section to cover HVAC,Ice Machines, Laundry matts, and Kitchen equipment. What do you think?

AJ, I think this is a viable idea also. I have an HVAC section on my Help Forum as well, and it has proven to be beneficial. The reason I don't get a lot of hits is because my website is appliance-oriented. If I advertised A/C help on the main page, it would open a whole new avenue for visitors.

Also, I am a licensed A/C contractor and am Heat Pump certified by R.S.E.S (Refrigeration Service Engineers Society), having run my own A/C and Heating company in the 1980's. If you chose to include this category, I'm sure between JW and myself, the topics would be covered  O0

A HVAC section is sounding better all the time.

JW,

Sorry to hear about your father and the damage to your house.
If I ever get a extra pc I don't know what to do with I will keep you in mind. :)

Repair-man,

Glad to hear you would help out too.
Like I said I'm not a HVAC tech so I would depend on the two of a lot.

Are there any other HVAC forums the two of you help out one. I could maybe take a look to get some more idea's.

Thanks,
Hope you find our site helpful.

The new board is up and running. :)
I remembered one old post we had about a furnace.
Did a search for it, found it and moved it to the new section.

It would be great if you guys could start some other topics there when you get some time.
Not sure what, maybe some general maintenance tips or something?

Thanks again for all the help. You guy's are great!
Hope you find our site helpful.

If this is ever the case on our site please let me know.

We are using shared hosting over at godaddy.com and as our site grows more active we may run into problems with the site being slow.

I am already shopping around for a dedicated server just in case.
Hope you find our site helpful.
