Whirlpool Gold GS6SHEXMQ00 Remove rocker arm switch

Two days ago the light on the frig side of my SS went out. Unfortunately replacing the lamp did not solve the problem. i live in Hawaii and a service call out is $150 plus time and materials once they get onsite. in hopes to save some dollars I purchased a replacement rocker switch with hopes that the switch is broken. I now have a replacement switch but have not been able to remove the installed switch. I am concerned that if I force it something will break (came close already) and feel certain that there is a simple method to accomplish this task. I would greatly appreciate any ides and recommendations.

 The light switches are usually just pushed into the plastic liner. Their real tight sometimes. Loosen it with a putty knife and then pull and wiggle it out

Unplug the fridge first.
Power to the switch all the time.
Also check the light socket. The center tab sometimes gets pushed down too tight and does not make contact with the bulb.

there is a catch tab or something that is preventing me from working it out of the hole, any suggestions?

Use a thin screwdriver and depress the tab while pulling on the switch.
It will come out.
Do you best not to tear the plastic liner.

I replaced the rocker arm but the light still does function, any additional idea would be appreciated.

 This is a shot in the dark but sometimes on refrigerator light sockets when you think the bulb is all the way tight there is still a half turn left. Check for power at the socket also.

Unplug the ice box and remove the light bulb. Adjust the tab on the base of the socket to extend out a little so the bulb can make good contact.

I adjusted the tab in the light socket but it had no effect. So far I have:
* Installed a new switch
* New Bulb
* Adjusted tab on light socket
The light continues to remain out on the refrigerator side only, the freezer light functions normally.

Their could be 2 rocker switches. One for light and one for fan.
Looked up the model number and their are 2 diff switches. One has 3 wires and the other has 2. The 3 wire switch I believe turns the light on in the freezer and shuts down the fan motor when the door is open. The two wire switch simply turns a light on in the ice box, did you get the 3 wire switch or the 2 wire switch. if you got the 3 wire switch it will work but ya gotta connect the correct 2 terminals up. Thats just whats on my mind.

I replace the 2 wire switch on the frig side with a 2 wire switch (like for Like)

looks like maybe you have a broken wire. On these I have seen problems in a molex plug that is mounted under that metal plate in back. Lots of corrosion back there. Remove the cover and check the harness connection.
